Jay Williams provides perfect response to trolling GameDay sign inside Dean Smith Center
Jay Williams knows all about the Duke-North Carolina rivalry after playing a star-studded career for the Blue Devils across the late 90s and early 2000s.
During Saturday’s broadcast of ESPN’s College GameDay from Chapel Hill, Williams took some good-natured ribbing from Tar Heel students in attendance. That ribbing came via a GameDay sign of Williams using a pacifier and wearing a bib that says “UNC is my daddy.”
While Williams acknowledged UNC got the best of Duke last season, he reminded fans everywhere of his accomplishments while with the Blue Devils:
“I owe Vince Carter a bet because I lost in the game last year,” Williams admitted. “I just want to say that I’m 7-1 against Carolina, 3-0 in this building, and I feel very comfortable here. I just want to say that. Very comfortable here.”

From 1999-2002, Williams helped lead Duke to 2 ACC regular season titles, 3 ACC Tournament championships and an NCAA title in 2001. As for UNC being William’s “daddy,” he certainly cleared the air on his legacy in the rivalry.
Saturday night, Duke and North Carolina wrap up the regular season with a 6:30 pm ET tip-off on ESPN.
