Jon Scheyer delivers positive news about Dariq Whitehead's injury outlook
Jon Scheyer shared good news about Dariq Whitehead’s injury outlook for the rest of the season on Thursday afternoon.
Whitehead appeared to suffer a serious injury in Duke’s lost to Virginia Tech earlier this week. However, Whitehead is expected to play again for the Blue Devils this season, Scheyer said.
He will miss Duke’s next game against Georgia Tech:
Jon Scheyer says that Dariq Whitehead will not play Saturday vs. Georgia Tech, but did NOT suffer a season-ending injury vs. Virginia Tech.
"I think he got a lot of relief once we did the testing."
Adds that Whitehead had no structural damage.

Whitehead’s injury was originally feared to be related to his achilles. Avoiding a tear in that area is excellent news for the 5-star freshman.
Here’s another look at the injury:
Man, hard to see this and not think achilles. Hoping for the best for @dariq_whitehead 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/twGpM03zat

Whitehead is expected to be a key part of Duke’s team in the postseason this year. He got off to a slow start this season after battling a foot injury in the offseason, but has been playing better in recent weeks.
He’s averaging 8.4 points per game this season while shooting 37.3% from 3-point range. Whitehead is projected to be a 1st round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Scheyer did not give a timeline for when he expects Whitehead to return.
Duke plays Georgia Tech on Saturday.
