Kyle Filipowski is returning to Duke for his sophomore season.

Filipowski made that announcement on Tuesday morning. He’s choosing to return to Duke despite his status as a potential 1st round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Here’s his announcement:

By returning to the Blue Devils, Filipowski will have a chance to further improve his draft stock for 2024. If he has a good sophomore campaign, it’s possible he could be a lottery pick in next year’s draft.

Filipowski was outstanding as a freshman with the Blue Devils. He averaged 15.1 points and 9 rebounds per contest and was often Duke’s most consistent player last season.

What this means for Duke

Filipowski’s return means the Blue Devils will bring back at least 3 starters from their 2022-23 team. Tyrese Proctor and Mark Mitchell are also set to return to Durham for next season. Guard Jeremy Roach has entered the NBA Draft, but is maintaining his collegiate eligibility and could also be back next season.

Duke also has an elite recruiting class set to join the program this summer. The Blue Devils have signed 5 5-star prospects this cycle, including power forward Sean Stewart and combo guard Caleb Foster.

Duke is a potential contender to be ranked preseason No. 1 in the country to start next season.
