Kyle Filipowski on preseason AP All-America team after fantastic freshman year for Duke
Kyle Filipowski was named to the preseason AP All-America team on Monday.
The 7-footer from Duke is joined by Purdue center Zach Edey, Marquette guard Tyler Kolek, Kansas center Hunter Dickinson, and North Carolina forward Armando Bacot on the preseason team.
Duke will open the 2023-24 men’s basketball season ranked No. 2 in the nation. Filipowski returning for his sophomore season plays a huge part in that early respect. As a freshman last season, Filipowski averaged 15.1 points a game to go with 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.7 blocks.
He led all freshmen with 16 double-doubles and paced the Blue Devils in both scoring and rebounding.
Much was expected of the former 5-star recruit, but he lived up to the hype right away. He became the fourth ACC player ever to earn Rookie of the Year and take home MVP honors at the conference tournament in the same season.
Duke opens its season on Nov. 6 against Dartmouth at home. Filipowski will have an early national stage with games against Arizona (Nov. 10) and Michigan State (Nov. 14) immediately after that.
