Mark Mitchell receives late status update for Duke’s Round of 32 matchup vs. Tennessee

Mark Mitchell has been a key piece for Duke’s lineup all season long. Unfortunately, he was a late scratch for the starting lineup on Saturday.

With the Blue Devils preparing to face Tennessee in the Round of 32, Duke announced Mitchell was scratched from the starting 5. He is also listed as questionable to play in the matchup.

According to the CBS broadcast, Mitchell landed awkwardly in practice and was having trouble moving his knee. CBS reported it’s “unlikely” Mitchell plays at all Saturday unless the knee gets better movement during the game.

A 6-foot-8 freshman forward, Mitchell is averaging 9.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists for the Blue Devils. He’s also shooting 46.9% from the floor and 35.2% from 3-point range.

We’ll see how Duke tries to make up for that production against the Volunteers, but that is a rough blow for the Blue Devils after entering the NCAA Tournament on a scorching streak.
