Mike Elko shared a positive update on Riley Leonard’s status ahead of this weekend’s game vs. Florida State.

Leonard didn’t play for the Blue Devils last week vs. NC State as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered vs. Notre Dame in Week 5. Elko said earlier this week that Leonard’s status is “day-to-day.”

In an appearance on ACC Network on Wednesday, Elko gave an encouraging update.

“Riley is progressing, I think he’s continuing to get better,” Elko said. “He’s out there practicing, moving around. I think he’s … you know, we continue to say he’s day-to-day and that’s the reality of where he is. He’s trying to get back from a high ankle sprain and you know how those things go.”

Duke defeated NC State 24-3 last week with Henry Belin IV starting at QB. Belin completed just four passes, but two of them went for touchdowns in the win.

When healthy, Leonard is one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC. He’s capable of hurting teams through the air and with his legs. He’s fourth in the ACC in Total QBR so far this season.

Duke will be looking for its first-ever win vs. Florida State on Saturday. The Seminoles are 19-0 all-time vs. Duke.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
