Mike Krzyzewski pays respects to the late Bob Knight

Mike Krzyzewski recently paid his respects to the late Bob Knight, who passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday.

The former Duke coach played as a guard under Knight at Army from 1966-69 and then began his coaching career as an assistant under the legend for Indiana’s h

istoric 1974-75 season.

Krzyzewski reflected on the gravity of the loss for the college basketball world now that 1 of the pioneers is no longer with us.

“We lost one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball today. Clearly, he was one of a kind. Coach Knight recruited me, mentored me, and had a profound impact on my career and in my life,” Krzyzewski said. “This is a tremendous loss for our sport and our family is deeply saddened by his passing. We offer our sincerest condolences to Karen, Tim, Pat, and their families during this d

ifficult time.”

Knight was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991 after a stellar coaching career that included 3 national titles (1976, 1981, 1987), five trips to the Final Four, and 11 Big Ten regular season championships.

As Knight’s most decorated protege, the Duke legend also reached the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 thanks to 5 national titles (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015), 13 trips to the Final Four, 15 ACC Tournament championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles.

Knight and Krzyzewski also guided Team USA to multiple gold medals during their respective stints as head coach.
