Former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is planning on staying away from the program during Jon Scheyer’s first season in charge.

On Monday, he told college basketball insider Jon Rothstein that he is planning to skip all Duke home games next season. He cited a desire to not be “in the way.”

“There’s no place in Cameron Indoor Stadium — a box or something — where you can get away from the maddening crowds,” Krzyzewski told Rothstein on the College Hoops Today Podcast

. “That’s going to be frustrating because I’d like to be there, but I also don’t want to be in the way.”

This will be Duke’s first season without Krzyzewski as head coach since 1979-80. T

he transition to Scheyer has gone well so far — at least from a roster-building perspective.

The Blue Devils are expected to be national title contenders once again. They return Jeremy Roach from last year’s Final Four squad and are bringing in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. Incoming freshmen include Tyrese Proctor, Dariq Whitehead, Dereck Lively II, Mark Mitchell and Kyle Filipowski.

Duke also added Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison via the transfer portal earlier this month.
