Mike Krzyzewski’s career comes to a close at Final Four

Mike Krzyzewski’s legendary reign as Duke’s head coach came to an end on Saturday night in an 81-77 loss to North Carolina in New Orleans.

The Blue Devils fought hard, matching North Carolina shot-for-shot down the stretch. The difference was a deep 3-pointer from sophomore guard Caleb Love with less than 30 seconds remaining.

That shot gave North Carolina a 4-point lead, which was ultimately enough cushion to seal the win.

Krzyzewski’s career ends with countless records broken and accolades earned. He won 5 National Championships (second only to John Wooden) and went to 13 Final Fours (most all-time).

He also led Duke to 15 ACC Tournament titles and 13 ACC regular season crowns. His 101 NCAA Tournament victories are the most all-time by a wide margin.

In the postgame press conference, Krzyzewski deflected when asked about coaching in his final game.

Duke will now be turned over to coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer, who has built a tremendous recruiting class for next year’s team. It’s a group that includes 5-stars Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski, Dereck Lively II and Mark Mitchell. The class ranks No. 1 in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
