Paolo Banchero says Duke’s win over North Carolina gives ‘closure’ after 2021-22 campaign

Paolo Banchero was in the house Saturday night to witness Jon Scheyer and his Duke Blue Devils take down North Carolina in thrilling fashion. Jeremy Roach scored 20, Dereck Lively II blocked 8 shots, and the Blue Devils beat the Tar Heels 63-57.

For Banchero, it was a bit of closure after what happened to his Duke squad last season. The Tar Heels spoiled Coach K’s final game at Cameron Indoor, and then sent Mike Krzyzewski into retirement with a loss in the Final Four.

“100% it gives me closure,” Banchero told The Fayetteville Observer’s

David Thompson after the game. “Just to see that team go down to us at home. … It was good to see them get a dub in Cameron.”

The victory for Duke Saturday night moved the Blue Devils to 17-6 on the season and 8-4 in ACC play.

An early-February victory in the regular season certainly isn’t the same as a Final Four showdown, and Scheyer’s first game in the series doesn’t exactly carry the same kind of stakes as Coach K’s last, it’s always good to beat North Carolina.

Banchero surely enjoyed the win.
