Riley Leonard to miss 'extended time' following latest injury, per report
Riley Leonard has been a star for Duke at quarterback, but he has been dinged up significantly this season. Leonard originally sustained an ankle injury at the end of the game against Notre Dame and missed the game against NC State as a result.
The QB did return against Florida State but did not finish and was eventually injured again late in the loss to Louisville. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the latest injury to Leonard will keep the QB out for an “extended period of time.”
Thamel reports the latest injury is a left toe ailment for the QB. It is entirely different than the right ankle injury he has been battling since the loss to Notre Dame.
As things currently stand, there is no definitive timetable for Leonard’s return, and it is not a certainty the QB will be able to play again in 2023. True freshman Grayson Loftis is expected to get his first career start in Thursday’s game against Wake Forest.
A definitive timetable on Leonard’s potential return from this injury has yet to be determined, per sources. It’s a *different* injury than the right ankle injury he suffered against Notre Dame that kept him out of the NC State game.
