ESPN previewed spring practice for every ACC team on Friday.
That includes Florida State, who will be hoping to contend for the ACC title this season. The Noles haven’t won the ACC since 2
014, but are gaining momentum after a 10-win season in 2022. ESPN analysts picked a “newcomer to watch” for FSU as it goes through spring practice
Their pick is cornerback transfer Fentrell Cypress. The Noles have brought in a star-studded group of transfers this offseason, but Cypress stands out as he was 2nd-team All-ACC a year ago with Virginia.
Here’s the analysis from ESPN’s Andrea A
delson and David M. Hale:
Once again, Florida State has no shortage of transfers as Norvell and his staff continue to rely on a model that allows them to integrate veteran playmakers into their team. It has worked wonders since Norvell arrived. Among this year’s talented group of transfers, keep an eye on Virginia transfer cornerback Fentrell Cypress II, who ranked No. 1 in the ACC and ninth nationally in pass breakups in a breakout season in 2022. He has the potential to be the best shutdown cornerback in the ACC.
Cypress is being brought in to help stabilize Florida State’s secondary. The Noles were solid against the pass last season, but safety Jammie Robinson is now off to the NFL.
Last season at Virginia, Cypress recorded 3 tackles and 14 pass deflections.
Florida State’s spring practice is already underway. The Noles will have their annual spring game on April 15.
