Florida allows record-breaking 42 points in first half vs. Samford

Things are getting worse in Gainesville.

One week after Florida suffered a blowout loss to South Carolina and parted ways with several assistant coaches, the Gators are losing at the half to FCS opponent Samford.

And not just losing — Samford is setting records. Samford leads 42-35 at the half, which is the most points Florida has ever given up in a half.

Samford has been mediocre-at-best this season vs. FCS opposition. It it 4-5 on the year and has suffered losses to programs like Mercer, Chattanooga and East Tennessee State.

This performance will likely put more pressure on Dan Mullen, who has been on the hot seat the last few weeks in Gainesville. Mullen is 33-14 overall in nearly four seasons at Florida but the Gators have won just 2 of their last 10 matchups against FBS opposition.

Florida closes the season with games vs. Missouri and Florida State. If the Gators lose to Samford, they’ll need to win both of those matchups in order to make a bowl game.
