Florida State athletic director takes apparent shot at Clemson’s facilities

Florida State athletic director Michael Alford made some pointed remarks about the future of FSU’s football facilities — as well as an apparent shot toward ACC rival Clemson.

“We don’t have a putt-putt course,” Alford said Friday while speaking with Tallahassee.com’s Carter Karels. “We don’t have a slide. We don’t have a lazy river. Everything that we are doing is for (the student-athlete’s) betterment.”

Some of the amenities that Alford described are part of Clemson’s athletic facilities. The Tigers have a slide, a putt-putt course and a bowling alley, amongst other features.

The comments were made while discussing Florida State’s ongoing facilities project. The Seminoles broke ground on a new football-only facility on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s a look at the ground-breaking ceremony:

Florida State and Clemson have long been ACC rivals, but Clemson has been dominant for most of the last decade. However, the Noles are trying to close the gap.

Clemson has won 7 straight meetings in this series. Florida State still holds the all-time advantage, 20-15.

Florida State will play at Clemson in 2023.
