Florida State won a huge recruiting battle on Friday afternoon.

The Noles earned a commitment from 4-star cornerback Cai Bates. He joins a loaded Florida State recruiting class that has several other top defensive backs already committed for the 2024 cycle.

Bates was previously committed to LSU. He also had offers from programs such as Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and others.

Bates is a huge pickup for Florida State in the class of 2024. He’s the No. 94 overall player and the No. 9 cornerback in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 15 player from the state of Florida.

Bates is listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He attends Edgewater High School and is from Orlando, Fla.

Florida State’s 2024 recruiting class is amongst the top-rated groups nationally. The defensive back room is arguably the heart of the class. It includes four blue-chip prospects, including 5-star safety KJ Bolden and 5-star cornerback Charles Lester II.

Overall, FSU has 23 commitments in the class of 2024. The group sits at No. 3 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
