Florida State defeated Georgia 8-1 on Thursday night in Game 1 of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

The Noles fell behind 1-0 in the 2nd inning, but it didn’t take long for them to respond. Florida State scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and then 4 more in the 5th.

Kaley Mudge had a big day at the top of Florida State’s lineup. She finished the game 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, a double and a run scored.

Here’s Mudge’s game-tying double in the 3rd inning. She would later come around to score:

Florida State was able to score 8 runs in this game despite not hitting any home runs. That was due in-part to a trio of doubles and a .360 batting average (9/25) on the day. Florida State’s offense also drew 4 walks.

Besides giving up a solo home run, ace Kathryn Sandercock was nearly flawless in the circle. She scattered 6 hits and didn’t walk any batters over her 5.2 innings of work. Ali DuBois pitched the final 1.1 innings, striking out 3 Georgia batters in the process.

Florida State is now in position to win the Super Regional on Friday against UGA. If the Bulldogs win Game 2, it would force a winner-take-all Game 3 scenario on Saturday.

FSU was the runner-up to Oklahoma in last year’s Women’s College World Series. The Noles are looking for the second-straight trip to Oklahoma City for the WCWS.
