Florida State clinches bowl eligibility, first 6-0 start in nearly a decade
Florida State is 6-0 in a season for the first time since 2015.
The Noles defeated Syracuse 41-3 on Saturday afternoon to clinch bowl eligibility for the 2023 season. It’s also FSU’s 12th consecutive win dating back to last year.

Jordan Travis led Florida State with 3 total touchdowns and 284 passing yards in the win. Lawrance Toafili paced FSU’s rushing attack with 93 yards and 1 touchdown on just 7 carries. His score came on a 50-yard touchdown in the second half to help seal the win.
Florida State’s program appears to be in a great place under coach Mike Norvell. This is Norvell’s fourth season at the helm. Last year, the Seminoles achieved a 10-win season for the first time since 2016.
Here’s how Florida State started its first six games in each of the seven seasons between 2023 and 2015:
- 2022: 4-2
- 2021: 2-4
- 2020: 2-4
- 2019: 3-3
- 2018: 3-3
- 2017: 2-4
- 2016: 4-2
Florida State will look to move to 7-0 next week against Duke. The Seminoles haven’t started a season with a 7-0 record since 2014 when it had an undefeated regular season and reached the College Football Playoff.
