Florida State will begin the 2022 season a week earlier than most college football teams as it faces Duquesne on Aug. 27.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Gramlich and Mac Lain podcast, Coach Mike Norvell explained multiple reason why he likes playing in Week 0. Starting the season with a home game — with a neutral site meeting vs. LSU scheduled for Week 1 — is a major reason.

“I love that we get to start the season here at home,” Norvell said on the podcast, also noting that the Seminoles will get to begin fall camp a week earlier because of the Week 0 contest. “So there’s that sense of urgency of all things that we’re doing.

“To be able to kick off the stadium [at home] is definitely going to be special.”

Florida State is one of two ACC programs who will be in action during Week 0. North Carolina, who faces Florida A&M on Aug. 27, is the other.

This is FSU’s first game in the month of August since the Noles fell to Boise State in Week 1 in 2019.

Florida State will be a heavy favorite over Duquesne in Week 0. The Noles have a 99.5% chance to win that game and start the season 1-0, per ESPN’s Football Power Index.

Kickoff vs. Duquesne is at 5 p.m. ET on August 27. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
