Florida State coach Mike Norvell gives injury update on receiver Winston Wright Jr.

Florida State will be without transfer receiver Winston Wright Jr. for an “extended period” this offseason, coach Mike Norvell announced on Tuesday.

Wright was involved in a car accident over spring break. Norvell indicated that he’d back in the fold later this offseason.

“We’re thankful, with the severity of the accident, that he’s still here,” Norvell told reporters on Tuesday. “It was something that was very scary … He’ll miss an extended period of time in the short term.”

Wright transferred to Florida State this offseason after a pair of standout seasons at West Virginia. Last season, he caught 63 passes for 688 yards and 5 touchdowns.

In his career, Wright has 129 receptions for 1,338 yards and 7 touchdowns across. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.

That’s certainly a weapon Florida State’s offense could use in 2022. The Seminoles’ leading receiver last season was Ontaria Wilson, who totaled 382 yards.

Wright has the potential to be the top target for quarterback Jordan Travis in 2022.

“He’s in good spirits,” Norvell added. “He’s going to be back and he’ll be rolling as soon as possible.”

Here’s Norvell’s full comments on the situation:
