Florida State ‘confident’ Wake Forest game will take place as scheduled

Florida State believes this weekend’s game vs. Wake Forest will take place as scheduled, despite the looming threat of Hurricane Ian.

The storm is expected to arrive into the region later this week and has already caused several adjustments to the college football calendar in Week 5.

But Florida State athletic director Michael Alford said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the program is “confident” the game will be played as scheduled.

“Following our most recent briefing today with authorities, University administration, transportation officials, security, law enforcement and emergency responders, we remain confident that we will be able to safely host Saturday’s football game against Wake Forest at its schedule kickoff time,” the statement reads. “We will continue to monitor the hurricane and all weather advisories and take action if needed to ensure the safety of all involved. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the forecasted impact area in South Florida and others affected by the storm.”

The statement comes just a few hours after Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson raised concerns about his team traveling to Tallahassee.

This game could have big implications on the Atlantic division and the ACC as a whole. The Seminoles enter this game with a 2-0 record in ACC play. Wake Forest lost to Clemson last weekend, but remain a contender in the Atlantic division.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
