Florida State holds off Oklahoma, clinches first 10-win season since 2016
Florida State defeated Oklahoma 35-32 in the Cheez-It Bowl on Thursday night in Orlando.
The Noles won it on a Ryan Fitzgerald field goal with just over a minute remaining in the game. Without any timeouts, Oklahoma’s offense was unable to move the ball into field goal range to potentially tie the game.
Jordan Travis had one of the best games of his career. He passed for 418 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Travis also rushed for 50 yards.
However, FSU’s best offensive player may have been receiver Johnny Wilson. He had eight catches for 202 yards in this contest. He also made a one-handed grab on a deep ball late in the game that helped set up Fitzgerald’s game-winning field goal.
This victory gave FSU 10 wins on the season. It’s the first time the Noles have reached double digit victories since 2016. This is also FSU’s first bowl game win since winning the Independence Bowl in 2017.
With numerous key players expected back next season, Florida State is expected to be one of the preseason favorites to win the ACC in 2023.
