New Florida State athletic director Michael Alford was officially introduced with his new role on Friday morning.

Alford was named FSU’s next athletic director on Thursday, replacing David Coburn. Alford previously served as the CEO of Florida State’s boosters.

“Michael Alford’s experience and passion for Florida State University make him an outstanding choice to lead the Athletics Department,” Florida State president Richard McCullough said in a press release. “Since arriving at FSU, he has made a tremendous impact and has garnered the overwhelming support of the Florida State community. Most importantly, his commitment to education and preparing student-athletes for lifelong success reflects the mission and values of Florida State University.”

Alford is not expected to have to make any major personnel changes in the immediate future. Florida State’s football program seems to be making progress under coach Mike Norvell and the men’s basketball team still has steady leadership from coach Leonard Hamilton.

Alford’s term begins on Jan. 3.
