Florida State landed a commitment from Albany defensive line transfer Jared Verse on Friday night.

Verse is considered to be one of the top players in the country to join the transfer portal this cycle. Here’s his announcement:

Verse is expected to enroll this semester at Florida State and join the Seminoles for spring practice.

He was dominant at the FCS level for Albany last season. Listed at 6-foot-4, 247 pounds, Verse has the potential to be Florida State’s top pass rusher next season.

Over the course of Albany’s spring and fall seasons, Verse tallied 21.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He’s the No.2-ranked player in The Athletic’s transfer portal player rankings, trailing only Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams.

This is a big get for the Seminoles, who will need to replace the production of ACC Defensive Player of the Year Jermaine Johnson II. He’s heading to the NFL after racking up 17.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks in 2021.

Verse has three years of eligibility remaining.
