Florida State leads the way with 7 selections on Athlon Sports' preseason All-ACC team
Florida State is well-represented on Athlon Sports’ preseason All-ACC team, which was released on Monday.
The Noles earned 7 first-team selections, which was the most of any team in the conference. Clemson has the second-most with 5 players who earned first-team honors.
Running back Trey Benson, receiver Johnny Wilson, receiver Keon Coleman, offensive lineman Robert Scott, defensive lineman Jared Verse and cornerback Fentrell Cypress are the players who made first-team preseason All-ACC. Tight end Jaheim Bell also made it as an “all-purpose” selection.
Benson emerged as FSU’s top running back in the middle of last season. He rushed for 990 yards despite splitting the work load with Treshaun Ward and Lawrance Toafili.
Wilson and Coleman form the top wide receiver tandem in the ACC. Wilson was Florida State’s top receiver a year ago while Coleman is a recent addition. A Michigan State transfer, he committed to FSU over Ole Miss earlier this month.
Verse and Cypress are also two of the best players at their respective positions in the country. Verse chose to return to Florida State rather than potentially be a 1st-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Cypress transferred to FSU after a standout season at Virginia in 2022.
Bell is one of two versatile tight ends that Florida State added via the portal this offseason. Last year at South Carolina, he caught 25 passes for 231 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 73 times for 261 yards.
In total, Athlon Sports released 4 preseason All-ACC teams. Here are FSU’s representatives on the other 3 squads:
