Florida State was dominant again in Week 2.

The Noles crushed Southern Miss 66-13 on Saturday night and have now jumped into the No. 5 spot in ESPN’s updated Football Power Index.

Florida State moved up 3 spots after being ranked No. 8 in FPI last week. FSU began the season at No. 14 nationally, per FPI’s preseason rankings.

Jordan Travis threw 2 more touchdown passes on Saturday night vs. Southern Miss. He now has 7 total touchdowns (6 passing, 1 rushing) on the season.

Through just 2 weeks, it’s clear that Florida State is a College Football Playoff contender. The Noles’ résumé includes a top-5 win over LSU and a convincing blowout over a solid Group-of-5 program in Southern Miss.

Florida State is the highest-ranked team in the ACC in FPI’s current rankings. Miami, who picked up a big win over Texas A&M in Week 2, is the only other ACC program in the top 15. Syracuse, Clemson, North Carolina and Louisville all reside in the top-30.

Florida State will begin ACC play in Week 3 against Boston College on the road.
