Florida State is a 4.5-point underdog against LSU in a pivotal Week 1 matchup. That’s according to an early betting line released by FanDuel this week.

Florida State will be looking to start the 2022 season off on the right track. The Seminoles went 5-7 last season and are hoping to make it back to a bowl game — and potentially compete for the division crown.

The LSU game will be played at the Super Dome in New Orleans, and figures to be a pro-Tigers crowd. With that in mind, a 4.5-point spread makes sense.

ESPN’s FPI model has LSU as a 4-point favorite on a neutral field.

This will be the first game of the Brian Kelly era for LSU. He departed Notre Dame for Baton Rouge before the Irish’s bowl game last winter.

Florida State is 7-2 all-time against LSU and has a 4-game winning streak in the series. The Tigers’ last win over FSU came in 1982.

These programs have met just once before outside of their respective campuses. That lone meeting was at the 1968 Peach Bowl, which was the first-ever matchup in this series. LSU won, 31-27.

Florida State opens the season vs. Duquesne in Week 0 on August 27. This game against the Tigers will take place on Sunday, Sept. 4.
