Florida State snubbed from ESPN’s list of 18 College Football Playoff contenders

Florida State did not make the cut of ESPN’s list of top 18 College Football Playoff contenders.

ESPN published the list on Sunday morning and it includes several 1-loss teams ahead of the undefeated Seminoles. Florida State is 4-0 o

verall and 2-0 in ACC play.

Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State were listed as front-runners. Michigan, Clemson and USC fell into a tier of undefeated programs who are on the cusp. Oklahoma State, Penn State, Washington, Tennessee, Kentucky and NC State each got a shoutout as an undefeated program with “more to prove.”

The list of contenders also included these 1-loss programs: Utah, Oregon, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M and Arkansa

s.

While Florida State’s absence from this list could be interpreted as a lack of respect for the Seminoles, FSU will have a chance to prove its case in the coming weeks.

Florida State faces Wake Forest, NC State and Clemson in its next 3 contests. Only the NC State game is on the road. If FSU can escape that stretch with its undefeated record still intact, it will certainly be a contender for the College Football Playoff in November.

Florida State and Wake Forest kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
