Florida State softball opens NCAA Tournament with dominant performance

Florida State easily dealt with Howard in the opening game of the Tallahassee regional on Friday evening.

The Seminoles won in 10 innings, earning an 8-0 mercy-rule victory over the Bison.

Starting pitcher Danielle Watson was the star of the show. She pitched a no-hitter and blasted the game-ending home-run in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In addition to the final result, Watson’s performance in the circle was big for Florida State because it allowed an extra day of rest for ace Kathryn Sandercock.

Offensively, FSU was led by Jahni Kerr. The centerfielder brought in 3 RBI and drew a walk in the win. Kaley Mudge, Mack Leonard, Michaela Edenfield, Chloe Culp and Kerr each recorded 1 hit.

The Seminoles are now 2 wins away from advancing to the Super Regional round. Florida State faces South Florida in the winner’s bracket on Saturday.
