Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson II was named the Bednarik Award Player of the Week for his standout performance in FSU’s win over Miami on Saturday.
Johnson recorded 3 sacks and 5 tackles for loss vs. the Hurricanes, helping his team to a 31-28 victory.
The Bednarik Award is given annually to college football’s best overall defensive player. Here’s the announcement:
Johnson has established himself as one of the best defensive players in the country. He leads the ACC with 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss so far this season. He also has 2 forced fumbles.
It’s still relatively early in the cycle, but J
ohnson could have a chance to be a top 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He had buzz as a potential first-rounder early in the season and has only improved his draft stock since then.
With the win over Miami, Florida State maintains the potential of reaching bowl eligibility this season. The Seminoles finish out the year vs. Boston College and Florida.
