Florida State star Malik Osborne ‘doubtful’ for marquee matchup vs. Duke

Florida State forward Malik Osborne is not expected to play on Tuesday night as the Seminoles host No. 8 Duke.

Osborne is dealing with an injury. He did not play in FSU’s win over Syracuse on Saturday and was in a walking boot on the bench. Last week, Hamilton acknowledged that Osborne was dealing with an ankle injury

.

After the win over Syracuse, Hamilton said he is “doubtful” for FSU’s game vs. the Blue Devils.

Osborne has been Florida State’s best player this season. He’s averaging 11.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in just over 28 minutes per contest. He’s been a very efficient scorer, making 47.4 percent of his field goal attempts and 41.3 percent of his 3-point tries.

The good news for the Seminoles is that the injury doesn’t appear to be serious. However, the timing is awkward for Florida State — it has now won three straight games and could really use a win over Duke to help boost its NCAA Tournament résumé.

Florida State is currently No. 54 nationally according to KenPom’s live rankings

. The Seminoles lack a quality nonconference win, so stacking big victories in ACC play will be crucial to earning an at-large bid in the Big Dance.

In Osborne’s absence vs. Syracuse, it was Caleb Mills who stepped up on the offensive end. He scored 19 points and dished out 5 assists to help lead a second-half comeback. If FSU is going to hang with Duke, it will need another big night from Mills on Tuesday.

Tipoff is at 9:00 p.m. ET.
