Florida State’s active leader in tackles enters transfer portal

Florida State linebacker Amari Gainer is entering the transfer portal, he announced on Monday.

Gainer is FSU’s active leader in total tackles with 210 over the course of a four-year career. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

Here’s Gainer’s announcement:

Gainer wrote that he’s making this decision to “do what’s best for my future and family.”

Coach Mike Norvell also commented on his departure and wished him well:

Gainer played in just seven games this season for the Noles. Florida State added Tatum Bethune in the portal last offseason, and Bethune won the starting job at m

iddle linebacker out of fall camp.

Gainer finished the year with 17 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Florida State has not had many portal entries so far this offseason. The Noles brought in one of the top classes in the country via the portal last offseason and are expected to be active again as they look toward 2023.

Florida State will face Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl later this month.
