Florida State’s triumphant win over LSU on Sunday night snapped a remarkable Brian Kelly win streak.

Kelly, previously the head coach at Notre Dame, had won 42 consecutive games over unranked opponents. Florida State did not feature in the preseason AP Top 25 this year after going 5-7 in 2021.

All 42 of those wins were during his time in South Bend. His last loss vs. an unranked opponent came on Nov. 19, 2016.

Of course, that means Notre Dame’s streak is still alive. The Fighting Irish will have a chance to extend their consecutive victories over unranked teams to 43 on Saturday.

Florida State is now 2-0 for the first time since 2016. That was also the last time the Seminoles won 8 or more games in a single campaign. FSU is likely to be favored in its next 3 games, which means it could be playing for bowl eligibility against NC State on Oct. 8.

The Noles are off in Week 2 but will face Louisville on the road in Week 3.
