Florida State’s win over Oklahoma earns huge TV rating, best of bowl season so far

Florida State and Oklahoma provided huge TV ratings on Thursday night.

According to Sports Media Watch, the Cheez-It Bowl drew an average 5.4 million viewers on ESPN. This number is the largest of the 2022 bowl season thus f

ar and the largest for the Cheez-It Bowl since 2013 (when it was known as the Tangerine Bowl).

The FSU-OU matchup saw a 10% increase from the 2021 edition of the bowl which featured Clemson and Iowa State (4.90M), per the report.

Florida State and Oklahoma are 2 of the more storied programs in college football, so the huge ratings do not come as a surprise. However, the Cheez-It Bowl is not the only bowl with increased ratings.

The Pinstripe Bowl and Alamo Bowl also played on Thursday, joined the Cheez-It Bowl in seeing improved ratings compared to last season.

The Cheez-It Bowl featured 2 storied schools, but it was also a riveting game. The Seminoles trailed 17-11 at the half before mounting a comeback in the 2nd half. The Seminoles scored the lone points of the 3rd quarter and then outscored the Sooners 17-15 in the 4th. The Seminoles walked out of Orlando with a 35-32 victory.
