Former Florida State defensive back Sam McCall is headed to the SEC.

McCall announced on Saturday afternoon that he is transferring to Texas A&M. He spent one season with the Noles.

Here’s his announcement:

McCall was Florida State’s top-ranked signee in the class of 2022. He was the No. 48 overall player in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

However, he left the program in November after failing to earn a role on FSU’s defense as a true freshman. He made five total tackles and one forced fumble this season. He also returned eight kicks for 142 yards.

Florida State does have depth at safety. Both Jammie Robinson and Akeem Dent could return in 2023. There’s also Azareye’h Thomas, who was an elite recruit in the class of 2023 as well. If the Noles need more reinforcements, they could turn to the transfer portal.

Florida State went 10-3 in 2022.
