Jared Verse announced his plans to return to Florida State for the 2023 season on Saturday morning.

Verse, who was one of the best pass rushers in the country this season, was considered a first-round pick by most NFL Draft evaluators. Instead, he returns to Tallahassee for a second season with the Noles.

His return could have a tremendous impact on FSU’s season in 2023. He played in 12 games this season and was amongst the ACC’s leaders with 17 tackles for loss and 9 sacks. He just missed out on ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Verse is not the only key player returning to Florida State rather than pursue NFL opportunities. Jordan Travis, Johnny Wilson, Mycah Pittman, Trey Benson, Fabien Lovett and Akeem Dent, amongst others, will also be back in 2023.

That level of returning production plus the current No. 1-ranked transfer portal class has fans and media excited about what FSU could do in 2023.

This past season, Florida State won 10 games for the first time since 2016. The Noles also appeared in — and won — a bowl game for the first time during the Mike Norvell era.

Could the Noles make another leap to be a strong contender in the ACC or for a College Football Playoff berth? Here’s some of the reaction from fans and media to Verse’s decision:
