LSU defensive lineman ejected for dirty hit on Florida State QB Jordan Travis
LSU defensive lineman Alie Gaye has been ejected for targeting for an illegal hit on Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis.
Gaye lowered the crown of his helmet and launched himself at Travis as he threw his second touchdown pass of the game on Sunday night.
The play resulted in a 17-3 lead for the Seminoles and Ontaria Wilson’s second touchdown of the game.

Here’s a better look at the targeting penalty:

LSU is already without star defensive tackle Maason Smith, who injured his knee earlier in the game while celebrating a tackle for loss.
Florida State was a 4-point underdog entering this game. The Seminoles are looking for their first 2-0 start to the season since 2016.
Here’s some of the reaction to Gaye’s hit on Travis:
That was a cheap, dirty, deliberately targeted hit, and if the @LSUfootball coach had any class, that kid wouldn't play next game or again this year.
Then again, knowing this coach, he probably sent the guy headhunting…#fsuvslsu #GoNoles

LSU just lost an nfl edge in Ali Gaye to an exceptionally stupid target penalty that got him tossed
Gaye also can’t play in 1H next week (luckily LSU plays Southern so that part of it doesn’t matter… dealing with Travis the rest of the night is another story)

One of the dirtiest — and stupidest — hits I’ve ever seen. What was Ali Gaye thinking?!

If you look up the definition of targeting, a photo of Ali Gaye appears

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brian Kelly keep Ali Gaye out for the entirety of next week’s game. Pure stupidity and frustration from the experienced lineman#LSUvsFSU
