Media, fans rip Florida State for narrow win over Boston College
Florida State escaped Chestnut Hill with a 31-29 win on Saturday afternoon over Boston College.
FSU’s defense struggled all game long, giving up 457 yards of total offense to the Eagles. Boston College went 8-for-19 on 3rd down and 4-for-5 on 4th down.
Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos was dominant, throwing for 305 yards on just 30 attempts. He also rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Boston College nearly erased a 15-point deficit in the 4th quarter. FSU was out-scored 13-0 in the final stanza as it was never able to re-establish an offensive rhythm late in the game. FSU’s final 5 drives included 3 punts and a fumble that was returned for a Boston College touchdown.
If not for the Eagles’ 18 penalties — including a face mask that extended FSU’s final drive — Boston College would have had a great chance to win this game.
Florida State’s offense moved the ball well throughout the game, but couldn’t cash in on key opportunities late in the game. Jordan Travis finished the game with 212 yards and 2 touchdowns. He briefly left the game with an arm injury, but did return in the 2nd half.
Here’s some of the reaction to Florida State’s narrow win over Boston College:
Some of the worst coaching on both sides of the ball I’ve seen in years. Complete letdown. Thankfully Boston College is so terrible it didn’t cost us a win.

WOW! #3 ranked team can barely beat Boston College. Gets bailed by a facemask call

No matter what anyone says, FSU will always be linked to Deion, whether the buzz is real or not. And Mike Norvell struggling against Boston College on the same day Deion is hosting Lalapalooza in Boulder pregame won't do anything to minimize that talk.

Boston College almost upsets Florida State. Maybe there’s more parity in CFB than people think?

I don’t know what’s crazier – that Boston College committed 18 penalties, or that they committed 18 penalties and almost beat Florida State?

Lot of people will look at this Florida State game and say they are overrated and they "barley beat Boston College"
Almost every team has games where they are off. Games where 9/10 times they lose.
This is just called winning your losses.

Win or lose, Mike Norvell's game management and playcalling today have been horrendous.

Florida State with a sigh of relief win after QB Jordan Travis finishing the game and the team almost blowing a 31-10 lead against Boston College

#FSUvsBC my word, what a complete almost disaster for Florida State, when BC had 18 penalties. FSU was not ready for this game, and slept in, instead of playing to their level!

Florida State and Holy Cross have played nearly identical games against Boston College. Holy Cross was a highly seeded Playoff team last year, so this bodes very well for FSU.

I don’t want to go too overboard but Florida State’s season is hanging in the balance in the next five minutes. They cannot blow this game and be a serious contender for anything significant

Also Florida State almost losing to a BC team that barely beat Holy Cross let’s you know how bad the ACC is.

Boston College would have beaten #3 Florida State had it not been for penalties. That’s tough. Also a bad sign for Florida state

Florida State is obviously a fraud team too. All they did was beat a bad LSU team
