Mike Norvell is excited about the arrival of Virginia transfer cornerback Fentrell Cypress.

Cypress committed to — and signed with — Florida State on Sunday afternoon. Cypress was second-team All-ACC in 2022 with 30 tackles and 14 pass deflections.

“This is another fantastic addition to our program,” Norvell said in a statement. “Fentrell is a great player who possesses the unique combination of length and athleticism. He has a huge upside and brings a proven track record of consistent playmaking into our defensive backfield.

“He has collected incredible experience at the college level while proving himself to be a smart and disciplined player whose success has shown up on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Fentrell is a tremendous fit for the Nole family as we continue on our CLIMB moving forward.”

Cypress will join a Florida State secondary that is hoping to make a big leap in 2022. Cypress will almost certainly fit into the starting lineup alongside Renardo Green, Azareye’h Thomas or Omarion Cooper.

Florida State is now up to 8 transfers in the class of 2023. The Noles’ transfer class ranked as the No. 1 group in the country prior to Cypress’ commitment, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Florida State went 10-3 in 2022.
