Mike Norvell gives encouraging update on Johnny Wilson, talks WR depth
Mike Norvell spoke with reporters on Monday afternoon at his weekly press conference.
Norvell was asked about the status of Johnny Wilson and Destyn Hill, two important receivers for the Noles’ offense. Wilson was forced to leave the Duke game early — his second consecutive game he’s left with an injury.
However, Norvell indicated that Wilson will have a good chance to play this weekend against Wake Forest.
“Johnny was in a really good place yesterday coming out of the game,” Norvell said.
Norvell also said Hill is nearing a return after he was forced to miss the Duke game with an injury.
Norvell said Florida State’s depth at wide receiver is an important strength as it deals with these injuries. In addition to star Keon Coleman, players like Kentron Poitier and Hykeem Williams were mentioned as players who are capable of producing when called upon.
“It’s good that we have depth in that position,” Norvell said. “It’s good that we see guys being able to get quality reps throughout the course of the game. And now it’s just elevating the production.”
Florida State is preparing to face Wake Forest this weekend on the road. The Seminoles will take a 7-0 record into Winston-Salem.
“Hopefully we have Destyn and Johnny rolling here this week because that keeps us at full strength,” Norvell added. “But if not, it’s new opportunities for other guys and we’ve got a talented group.”
