Mike Norvell on Florida State’s offense: ‘This is a program that’s built for playmakers’

Mike Norvell is well aware of the abundance of riches he has to work with along Florida State’s offense.

It’s a main factor why the Seminoles are ranked No. 3 in the AP poll going into a road contest at Boston College in Week 3. Florida State is averaging 55.5 points through its first 2 games, good for 4th nationally.

During an appearance on ACC radio, Florida State’s head coach takes great pride in maintaining the offensive standard established at the heralded program.

“This is a program that’s built for playmakers,” Norvell said. “It’s my job as a head coach to make sure that we’re showcasing all the skills and talents of our players.”

Quarterback Jordan Travis has completed 38 of his 60 passes for 517 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception. Travis has some explosive weapons at his arsenal in wide receivers Keon Coleman (12 receptions, 170 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Johnny Wilson (7 receptions, 104 yards).

“We’re going to try to attack in a variety of different ways to p

ut our guys in the best matchups, whether it’s going against zone coverage, man coverage,” Norvell said. “..It’s about helping position your players and giving them all the resources through their technique and fundamentals to go win the 1-on-1. We’ve got great playmakers around us.”

Norvell deflects the praise from his play calling to the talented roster he’s gifted with.

“It’s about building that relationship and building that trust. I get to do it with a remarkable group of young men,” Norvell said. “I’m definitely blessed for the opportunity I get to be able to lead this team.”

Florida State at Boston College is slated for Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. EST (ABC).
