Mike Norvell was the latest winner of the Dodd Trophy on Friday, becoming the first ACC head coach to win it since David Cutcliffe of Duke in 2013.
Norvell led Florida State to an undefeated record and ACC title in his 4th season w
ith the Seminoles. The award was named after former Georgia Tech head coach Bobby Dodd. Dodd coached at Georgia Tech from 1945-1966. Last year’s winner was former Tulane head coach Willie Fritz.
Here’s what Norvell had to say about winning the award:
“I am thrilled to be this year’s recipient of The Dodd Trophy. The values of athletic success, academic excellence and character represented by this award align with what we emphasize in our program,” Norvell said in a statement. “Those characteristics have been on display t
hrough some truly challenging circumstances this season, but I am so proud of how our team responded each and every time. For that to be recognized in this way is an honor.”
The Seminoles will face Georgia in the Orange Bowl to close out the year. Florida will be without Tate Rodemaker, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, Trey Benson, DJ Lundy and others.
Florida State will have a chance to close out the 2023 campaign with an undefeated record on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN.
