Florida State seems to be making serious progress on 4-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr.

Baxter, who is currently committed to Texas, announced on Sunday night that he will be taking an official visit to Florida State this weekend. Baxter is a former FSU commit and grew up cheering for the Noles.

According to On3’s Chad Simmons, Florida State is a legitimate threat to flip Baxter’s commitment.

“That’s his dream school,” Simmons said, speaking about FSU.. “He was committed there at one time. He loves Florida State for Florida State. He watched that program growing up. He knows about their history, he knows about all their winning under Bobby Bowden. He know about what Norvell is trying to do. And they’ve been extremely consistent, whether it be Mike Norvell, David Johnson, the staff behind the scenes in Tallahassee. He has a lot of connections there at Florida State. They make him feel extremely comfortable when he’s there.”

“Can they flip him? Time will tell. But FSU, I think, has truly become a threat to Texas.”

Here’s Simmons’ full breakdown on this situation:

If Florida State can flip Baxter, he would become one of the top-ranked players in the Seminoles’ 2023 recruiting cycle. Baxter ranks as the No. 48 overall player and the No. 4 running back in the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Early Signing Period is in December.
