New Florida State baseball coach Link Jarrett talks Omaha, future expectations for program

Florida State hired Link Jarrett away from Notre Dame over the weekend, and he made his first public comments since making the move on Monday morning.

Jarrett, who is fresh off leading the Irish to the third College World Series appearance in program history, was quick to focus on getting the Seminoles back to Omaha.

It’s a place where he also reached as a player at Florida State. He helped the Seminoles reach the College World Series in 1991, 1992 and 1994. However — as he noted Monday — he’s yet to win a National Championship.

That’s something he’s aiming to change during his time in Tallahassee.

“It’s not easy, I know this is difficult. Walking off that field [in Omaha] a week ago was challenging, emotional,” Jarrett told reporters on Monday, via Tomahawk Nation

. “I actually walked off that field three times as a player, and I’m going to walk off that field, at some point, with the trophy.

“A lot of people say that, I would think every coach stands at the podium and probably says the same thing, but I’ve been very close — and my experience in the game, playing and now coaching, has positioned me to be in a program where I feel like we have that opportunity annually to position ourselves to host a regional, host a super-regional, find ourselves in Omaha and cultivate a time that has a chance out there to win it.”

Jarrett replaces Mark Martin Jr., who was fired earlier this offseason after 3 years in charge. Jarrett played for his father, Mike Martin Sr., from 1991-94.

Florida State hasn’t reached the College World Series since 2019.
