Deion Sanders is “in the mix” for the TCU head coaching job, according to a report.

That’s per a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, citing a source close to TCU’s search committee. The Horned Frogs parted ways with longtime head coach Gary Patterson earlier this month.

The report states that Sanders’ first interview with the program was “impressive.” The report stopped short of saying Sanders was the leading candidate, however.

Sanders is in his second season of his head coaching career with Jackson State. His Tigers are 8-1 this season so far and 6-0 in SWAC play.

There are other more experienced head coaches who have been linked to this job. SMU’s Sonny Dykes and Louisiana’s Billy Napier are believed to be under consideration, amongst others.

Sanders has been dealing with medical issues this season as well. He’s been sidelined for the last few weeks after having foot surgery. On Wednesday afternoon, he announced he had been released from the hospital.

Jackson State faces Southern U on Saturday.
