Florida State defensive lineman TJ Davis has been medically disqualified, according to a report.

That’s per 247Sports’ Brendan Sonnone, who cites a team spokesman. Davis was removed from the team’s official roster on Thursday.

Davis had dealt with injuries over the past 2 seasons and appeared in just 1 game for Florida State — vs. UMass las season. However, he was named FSU’s Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year for 2021.

The Metter, Georgia, native was a 3-star recruit in the class of 2020. He was the No. 96 outside linebacker in the country for the class of 2020, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

This does hurt Florida State’s defensive line depth, but the Seminoles will have the opportunity to replace Davis in the transfer portal. He will no longer count against FSU’s scholarship limit.

Florida State has already brought in impact players along its defensive front via the transfer portal this offseason. Albany transfer Jared Verse is expected to be one of the top pass rushers in the ACC this season.

FSU opens the year vs. Duquesne on Aug. 27.
