Florida State appears to have landed a special prospect in 4-star quarterback signee AJ Duffy.

Duffy has reportedly been the best quarterback through two days of practices at the Under Armor All America event in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

That’s according to 247Sports, who has named Duffy the event’s No. 1 quarterback after both practice sessions so far this week.

“He throws the best deep ball in our group and even with the tired receivers not being able to finish some of their routes, he still puts the ball where it needs to be,” Team Icons offensive coordinator Chad Johnson told 247Sports. “The kids like him a lot and he does a nice job rallying the guys around him. I think they know him already from playing at IMG but he’s a complete QB. He ran the ball well when needed and is a very good all around football player.”

Duffy was ranked ahead of other top prospects such as Texas A&M signee Conner Weigman and Auburn signee Holden Geriner.

Duffy was the No. 120 overall player in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also the No. 8 quarterback and the No. 17 player in the state of Florida.

With Jordan Travis expected to return to Florida State next season, it’s unlikely Duffy will see early playing time as the primary starter. However, Duffy will likely have a chance to compete for FSU’s backup job next season and could end up playing a bigger role if Travis goes down with an injury.

Duffy is expected to be an early enrollee.
