5-star defensive back Travis Hunter has been committed to Florida State since March 3, 2020, but he’s reportedly about to back off of that commitment on signing day.

That’s per Yahoo!’s Pete Thamel, who cites sources saying FSU is expecting him to flip to Jackson State as the Early Signing Period begins on Wednesday.

Hunter is the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2022, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Jackson State, of course, is coached by Florida State legend Deion Sanders. Hunter choosing to go to an FSC program after being committed to Florida State for nearly two years is one of the biggest signing day surprises in recent memory.

Hunter has visited Florida State’s campus six times since the dead period ended in June, according to his 247Sports timeline. He was also being recruited by Georgia in recent weeks.

If Hunter does indeed flip to Jackson State, it would significantly impact Florida State’s recruiting class. The Seminoles currently have the No. 2 class in the ACC, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
