After a rough outing against Louisville, Florida State kicker Ryan Fitzgerald received support from head coach Mike Norvell and the coaching staff on Monday afternoon.

Fitzgerald missed 2 field goals that could have given Florida State more of a cushion against the Cardinals. He missed a 37-yard field goal in the 1st quarter and a 36-yard field with under 2 minutes left in the game.

The second field goal miss would have put Florida State ahead by 7 points. Fortunately, Florida State managed to win the game and Fitzgerald’s kicking issues did not impact the outcome.

Norvell showed his support for his sophomore kicker.

“Ryan (Fitzgerald) is our kicker,” Norvell said.

Norvell realized what went wrong with Fitzgerald’s technique and thought he was going to make the field goals. Despite missing 2 field goals, Fitzgerald nailed 5 extra points. Through 3 games, he has made 3 of 6 field goal attempts.

According to Florida State special teams coordinator John Papuchis, Fitzgerald immediately worked on what went wrong after the game. Fitzgerald was seen practicing kicks hours after the team landed at 4:30 a.m. ET.

In 2021, Fitzgerald played in 12 games and made 10 field goals and 37 PATs. Fitzgerald will have to figure what prevented him from making field goals.

Florida State will need Fitzgerald to be in his best form against Boston College on Saturday.
