Wake Forest coach not expecting big crowd for FSU game, says it could be ‘fewer people than Vanderbilt’

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson isn’t expecting a big crowd on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

That feeling is due to the expected impact of Hurricane Ian, which reached the state of Florida on Wednesday afternoon. However, Florida State’s top 25 showdown with Wake Forest on Saturday is still on as scheduled.

Still, the nature of the storm is causing Clawson to question what kind of a crowd will be there on Saturday.

“Given that Florida State canceled classes and canceled their homecoming, I don’t know if it’s going to be packed,” Clawson said at his weekly press conference. “Who knows, it could end up being fewer people here than Vanderbilt. I think we were preparing for that.

“I have friends down there that wanted tickets who said, ‘no thanks, we’re good now.’

The announced attendance for Wake Forest’s game at Vanderbilt earlier this season was 24,431.

Wake Forest has won the last 2 meetings in this series. The winner of this game will remain a top contender in the race for the Atlantic division title.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. on Saturday.
