Brent Key has had enough time to reflect on the culture change he helped lead last season as he credited the Georgia Tech players for helping steer the ship from a 1-3 start, to a 4-4 finish.
“We blocked out all of the external noise and bullcrap and went to work,” Key said on SiriusXM.
It started with a team meeting in which Key told the players that he would be transparent and black and white. Key wanted the players to have ownership in the program, and he leaned on his own experience as a player to show them that he knows what it’s like.
“Not always be my message to them, but also what was coming out of the locker room, and what do they need,” Key said.
That led to lesson is learning how to avoid losing, before they learned how to win. From there, the Yellow Jackets had a full-pad practice that Tuesday morning and “went to work.”
Key was in his 4th season as assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach before he was promoted to the full-time coach and no longer the interim.
